Mornington Winter Food Festival
The festival is running across Mornington on Saturday. Flinders and surrounding towns will be busier than usual, and coastal roads slower in the afternoon. Book restaurants in advance and allow extra travel time.

Strong currents at West Head
The beach at West Head is unpatrolled in winter and currents are strong. It is a walking beach only during your stay. Swim at Shoreham if you'd like a dip.

Weekend restaurants fill early
With the festival on, book Friday and Saturday dinner as soon as you've settled in. The Terminus and Point Leo take reservations by phone.
Road works · Weekdays until 4pm
Frankston-Flinders Road resurfacing
Single-lane sections between Balnarring and Shoreham until Friday. Allow an extra ten minutes if you're heading north during the day.
Parking advice · Saturday and Sunday
Blowhole car park fills by 10am on weekends
Only a dozen spaces at the West Head trailhead. Walk from the house if you can, or arrive before 9am.
Whale season · August mornings
Southern right whales offshore
Winter is calving season along the Peninsula. Watch for spouts from the cliff-top between the Blowhole and West Head. Bring binoculars if you have them.

- The General Store usually sells out of fresh sourdough by 10am on weekends.
- Point Leo car park is busiest between 11am and 2pm. Arrive earlier or after 3pm.
- The Blowhole walk becomes slippery for an hour or two after rain.
